Wanphrang has a strong connection to the cultural and environmental landscapes that influence his work with projects delving into themes of identity, indigenous culture, environmental concerns, and the intricate interplay between tradition and modernity.
Award-winning projects:
'Where the Clouds End' (2013): Explores tribal identity, recipient of 'Early Career Film Fellowship.'
'Between the Forest and the Song' (2015): Dives into Kongthong Village's song-naming tradition.
Co-wrote and edited 'My Name is Eeooow,' (2016) Best Film at Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland’s Ethnographic Film Festival & Film Festival della Lessinia.
'Because We Did not Choose' (2017): Examines tribal labour in WWI, supported by Commonwealth War Graves Commission & Goethe Institut.
'Lorni-the Flaneur' (2019): Feature fiction film premiered at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival | PÖFF , featuring Adil Hussain (known for his role in 'Life of Pi,' among others).
Commitment to education and community work: Dedicated to nurturing emerging talent, serving as visiting faculty and resource person for universities.
Wanphrang's latest film ‘The Blood and the Border’ was screened at the Migrant Voices in European Cinema conference at the University of Kent.
